Outline
The Club Sailing Championship is open to all sailing members of the Club. The object of the competition is to identify and reward the most capable sailors.
You are automatically entered into the Championship, if you take part in any of HLSTC's main race series. This year's programme includes eight Sunday series and two Friday series.
At the end of each series, if you have sailed in at least 30% of the races that actually took place, you are termed a qualifier, and you qualify for championship points.
At the end of the year, everyone’s championship points are totalled, and the highest scores indicate the winners. Up to five awards will be made.
Points Scale
In a normal series, the number of points allocated is 25 for the highest-ranked qualifier, 18 for the second, then 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2, down to 1 point for 10th place. After this no points are awarded, and no points go to boats that have not met the 30% requirement.
Some series may have a reduced number of races, usually because of weather conditions, or may have a smaller number of active participants. A series will be termed a minor series, if the number of races actually sailed is less than six, or if the number of qualifiers is less than eight; points will still be awarded, but at a reduced scale of 12, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. No points will be awarded if the number of races sailed is less than three.
Change of boat
The championship is centred on the sailor, not the boat, and you are free to use a different boat in each series. If you have more than one entry in a single series, you will be scored on the entry that is most advantageous to you.
Duty Credits
RO and OOD credits are taken into account when calculating ranking within a series, but they do not count towards the 30% required for qualification purposes.
Tie-break
If two members have equal points totals, the tie-break procedure of RRS.A8 will be applied.
